Community Garden Proposal Decision Postponed Amidst Neighbor Concerns
The City Council considered a request for a special use permit to establish a community garden on a 6-acre parcel located east of DeLuca Street, south of R. Graham Street, and north of West Allen Street. The Galilee United Methodist Church proposed the garden, which would include raised beds and a prayer garden. Neighboring residents expressed concerns about property values and proximity to their homes. The council decided to postpone the decision until the July meeting to allow for discussions between the church and the residents to find common ground, emphasizing the need for expert testimony on property value impact if the issue proceeds without an agreement.
