Spokane Transit Authority Seeks Renewal of Sales Tax for Continued Service and Enhancements
The Spokane Transit Authority (STA) presented information on Proposition 1, a ballot measure to renew an existing two-tenths of a cent sales tax. This renewal, first approved in 2016 and set to expire in 2028, would extend funding through 2048. Cheney School District Launches Summer Food Program with Expanded Services
The Cheney School District Nutrition Services presented its summer food service program, which includes breakfast and lunch services Monday-Thursday at Cheney High School, Snowden Elementary, and Sunset Elementary. For the first time, Airway Heights Parks and Recreation will offer a Thursday pickup option for weekend meals. The program emphasizes improved food quality, using more stable and healthy products, including shelf-stable options, whole grain lunchables, and fruit juice, to meet the needs of families and ensure food security during the summer months.
Wellhouse 1 and 2 Roof Replacement Project Approved
Resolution F497 was approved for the roof replacement of Wellhouse 1 and 2. The project involves tear-off and installation of a 50-year metal shake roof to enhance the building's aesthetic appeal. This is part of an overall rehabilitation project for the wellhouses that was funded in the budget.
Therapeutic Court Grant Awarded for 2026-2027
The city received notification that the 2026-2027 therapeutic court grant was awarded, totaling $219,230.88. This amount represents an 8% reduction from the previous year, which was better than the anticipated 10% reduction. The city did not receive the requested plus-up, but this was expected.
