City Council Approves 2026 Millage Rate Increase After Public Hearings
The City Council held the third and final public hearing for the 2026 millage rate. The proposed rate is 7.25 mils, which is the first adjustment in over seven years. This rate represents a proposed change of one mil over the current millage rate to maintain the city's level of operations amidst increased costs and collection challenges. For an average residential property with a fair market value of $525,000, the annual increase in taxes would be approximately $213.94 after accounting for the $50,000 homestead exemption, which averages to about $18 per month. The council also adopted millage rates for the Shambly Downtown Special Service District, Dresden Plaster Special Service District, and the General Obligation Bond, all as presented.
