Bixby Public Schools Secures $20,000 Career Tech Grant and Launches New Construction Program
The district received a $20,000 career tech grant for a teacher in family and consumer sciences to purchase a new sewing and embroidering machine that will enhance programming capabilities. Additionally, a new construction program, starting in the 2026-2027 school year, has been approved. This program partners with the Homebuilders Association and will utilize curriculum from the Homebuilders Institute. The program received $70,000 this year to support construction costs, utilizing an existing building previously intended for an OSU program.
Two Resignations Approved Under Human Resources
Two resignations submitted after the agenda posting were approved under human resources. These items were added to the agenda for board action.
US Foods Renewed as Child Nutrition Prime Vendor Through Consortium Agreement
The district approves Campus Smart US Foods as the child nutrition prime vendor for the 2026-2027 school year. This continuation of service is part of a consortium agreement with Edmond and other districts, which helps secure better pricing.
District Approves Khan Academy Licenses to Enhance Student Learning
The district is approving student licenses for Khan Academy for grades 7-12 at a cost of $5,886, to be paid from the general fund. Khan Academy is described as a licensed online support tool that provides valuable practice and learning areas. Its AI tool, KIGO, utilizes a Socratic method for tutoring, asking questions rather than providing direct answers, and has strict industry guardrails. It offers 24/7 availability and a writing coach feature, promoting critical thinking and skill improvement.
Junior Achievement Finance Park Program Approved for Personal Financial Literacy
The district approves an agreement with Junior Achievement Finance Park for the personal financial literacy program for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. This program is free to the district and is a required personal financial literacy component for older students. While not all students may be engaged, it is considered one of the better methods for delivering this education.
