City Council Hears Updates on Community Events, Bangor Mall Negotiations, and Ethics Board Procedures

The City Manager provided updates on several community events and initiatives. The Ponobscot Maritime Heritage Association will host an event celebrating the Ponobscot River from July 28th to August 3rd, with events in Bucksport, Bangor, Castine, Brewer, and Searsport. Bangor's annual Pride event will focus on the waterfront area on Saturday, with a parade starting at 11 AM on Main Street, involving road closures on Union, Maine, and Washington streets. The first Homelessness Advisory Committee meeting is scheduled for July 14th. The City Solicitor provided an update on the Bangor Mall, noting ongoing settlement negotiations regarding court-imposed deadlines for violations. A post-construction stormwater maintenance plan, submitted by Haley Ward, has been deemed acceptable by the city's stormwater manager. The deadline for the mall to remediate all violations is July 31st. The council also discussed procedures for handling advisory opinions from the ethics board, specifically concerning actions by Councilor Wayne Meer during a historic preservation commission meeting. The council voted to rely on the ethics board's investigation and requested to review the investigation records prior to deliberations, with the matter to be scheduled for the next workshop.
