City Approves Annexation of North Point Area and Rezones Property for Light Industrial Use
The council passed Resolution 10-2026, adopting a fiscal plan for the annexation of a 40-acre parcel of land known as the North Point annexation area. This area is located north of Morningstard Road and east of North Main Street. The fiscal plan details capital improvements, services, and their financing. Following the resolution, the council passed Ordinance 2026-16 on first reading, which officially annexes the 40-acre North Point Annexation Area into the city of Auburn. The Land Commission also noted that the rezoning of 1000 West Auburn Drive from R3 to Light Industrial, located between DAB Avenue and Auburn Drive and west of Dallas Street, will be coming before the council on July 7th. Additionally, the rezoning and primary plat for the North Point addition, off of Bridgewater North, were also discussed by the Land Commission.
Auburn Amends Excavation Ordinance with Increased Fees for Street and Curb Cuts
The council passed Ordinance number 2026-17, amending and restating subchapter 95.35 entitled Excavations of the City of Auburn Code of Ordinances. During the discussion, council members inquired about significant fee increases for curb cuts and street cuts, with proposed fees rising to $250-$500. City staff explained that these costs reflect procurement for time and material, oversight, and the use of software for follow-up, indicating a 'sign of the times' adjustment. The previous fee for curb cuts was $25, and while the street cut fee was uncertain, it was acknowledged that it likely needed to be raised. New fees were introduced for activities like boring and trenching, calculated based on footage and site complexity, accounting for the time and effort required for 'make ready' work and site visits to verify designs and ensure adjustments are made. The increased fees also account for the complexity of crowded easements, which are crucial for utilities, aiming to organize space utilization. Additionally, the removal of poles and the implementation of pole attachment agreements were mentioned as efforts to consolidate and maintain existing infrastructure, reducing the need for additional poles.

Kitech USA and OSL, operating within the same building under one umbrella SP1, are in substantial compliance, with Kitech having 69 employees and OSL having 286, maintaining their employment and production levels. SCP Real Estate LLC is in substantial compliance, having made significant improvements and purchased new machinery totaling $5.6 million across three pieces, with plans to expand product lines and potentially build an additional building, though employee numbers have remained steady. Metal Technologies is substantially compliant, installing new second-line equipment in July and making substantial investments in their Auburn facility. Straw Band Group is substantially compliant, having modernized their uptown facility, which includes retail space, and has grown globally, adding 2-5 employees locally and 15-20 globally in the past year. Phoenix Auburn Industrial Investors are in substantial compliance, having successfully prepared a building for leasing, which is now occupied by Thermatru for warehousing and production, employing 15 people.
Auburn Repeals General Utility Provisions Ordinance
The council passed Ordinance number 2026-18 on first reading, which repeals chapter 54 of the City of Auburn Code of Ordinances, entitled General Utility Provisions, in its entirety. The reason for the repeal is that the basic information contained within this chapter is already covered in both the water and sewer ordinances.
Community Events Update: Youth Council Support, Art Exhibit, and July 4th Celebration Details Announced
During the reports section, the council acknowledged several community events and initiatives. The Mayor thanked attendees of the youth council event on June 5th, despite rain, which had approximately 30 participants. The downtown summer art exhibit is ongoing and recommended for public viewing.
