Marysville City Council Approves Fire Service Annexation Agreement with Linda Fire Protection District

The City Council considered and approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and an amendment to the tax-sharing agreement to facilitate the operational transfer of fire services following annexation from the Linda Fire Protection District to the City of Marysville, effective July 1st. The agreements aim to improve fire protection services, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure sustainable funding. Key financial aspects discussed included the allocation of assets, liabilities, revenues, and future obligations, reserve payments, lease costs for fire apparatus, strike team revenue, and leave payouts for personnel. The city's financial projections indicate that the annexation, despite initial costs and reserve payments, is expected to become cost-neutral and eventually lead to savings compared to maintaining current operations and future apparatus replacement. A proposal to modify impact fee policies by offering a six-month grace period for developers to secure discretionary land use approval was also discussed, aiming to balance existing commitments with new fee structures. Several other provisions, including cell tower lease revenue, fire inspection and prevention support, and coordination of shop activities, were outlined as part of the broader agreement.
