Resident Voices Zoning Concerns Regarding Landlocked Property and Fencing
During public comment, a resident raised concerns about zoning issues related to being landlocked by fences along Ash Lane and the Lafayette Green Condominiums. The resident reported an inability to use a lawnmower due to narrow fence openings and expressed safety concerns regarding fire hazards and escape routes. Charlie Guttenplan, Township staff, explained the complexity of the situation due to the lack of an HOA and inconsistent adherence to zoning requirements for fence placement and gate access. He mentioned that enforcement is difficult but that staff would attempt to inspect properties with adjacent access and send letters. The Board encouraged staff to work with the homeowner on interim solutions.
Township Approves Settlement for Tax Assessment Appeal
The Board of Supervisors approved the settlement of an assessment appeal for tax parcel 65-00-09967-30-9. The settlement requires the Township to refund the property owner $11,034.37 for tax years 2024 through 2026, and future taxes will be reduced by $5,385.25 per year. This settlement was negotiated by the school district with the appellant, and the Township's office advised accepting it to avoid further litigation.
Lafayette Avenue Connector to be Renamed Academy Drive
The Board of Supervisors approved a letter of support to PennDOT to rename the Lafayette Avenue Connector to Academy Drive, as requested by Germantown Academy. This action is supported because the road has no residential or commercial addresses, ensuring that emergency services will not be affected by the change. The renaming honors Germantown Academy's history and presence in Whitemarsh Township. The road is a PennDOT road, requiring local jurisdiction support for the name change.
Environmental Advisory Board Member Resigns; Township Seeks New Applicants
The Board of Supervisors accepted the resignation of Victor Low from the Environmental Advisory Board due to his relocation out of the Township. They thanked him for his service and reminded the public about the process for applying to serve on boards and commissions through the Township website.
Township Approves May 2026 Financials
The Board of Supervisors approved the financial statements for May 2026, including expenditures of $1,388,682.44 and payroll of $791,959.55.
