Park and Recreation Commission Reappointments Confirmed
Gavin Woolly, Tessy Stephins, and John Frytog were reappointed to the Park and Recreation Commission. All terms are set to end in June 2029. The reappointments were approved via a motion and second, followed by a voice vote.
Boundary Adjustment for Stone Haven Plat 2 Approved
An ordinance was approved for a boundary adjustment for Stone Haven Plat 2. The applicant, who owns both properties, requested to shift lot lines to consolidate on-site stormwater detention onto one property, as they plan to sell the other. Structures exist on both lots: a triplex on lot one and a recently constructed single-family home on lot two.
Fire Department Medical Director Agreement Updated with Mercy Clinic
An ordinance was passed authorizing a medical director agreement between the City of Washington Fire Department and Mercy Clinic East Communities. This updates the previous agreement from 2003 to reflect current doctor and hospital names and ensures the department operates under up-to-date medical protocols.
Workers' Comp Experience Positive; Cyber and Auto Insurance Premiums Rise
The city's workers' compensation experience has been positive, with the modification factor decreasing from a 19% surcharge (1.19) in 2021 to a 9% credit (0.91) in the expiring year, and currently at 0.97 (a 3% credit). Despite a slight increase in rate creep due to moderate loss frequency (six claims) and a 6% increase in payroll, the modification factor is expected to trend downward. Cyber insurance with CFC, part of a Lloyds of London syndicate, shows a stable but increasing premium due to rising city financials and commercial auto exposure has increased due to added units. Overall, the premium increase, assuming the $25,000 deductible, is projected at 9%.
City Council Establishes Downtown Washington Arts District Initiative
The City Council passed a resolution to establish a Downtown Washington Arts District Initiative. This initiative aims to celebrate local artists, galleries, studios, musicians, and cultural stewards, while also raising public awareness and increasing community participation in arts and cultural activities. The plan will be developed over five years, requiring no initial city funding and will be submitted within 180 days by the Rivertown Arts Foundation in conjunction with downtown partners and city representatives.
