City Council Adopts 2025 Urban Water Management and Contingency Plans

The city council adopted the 2025 Urban Water Management Plan and the 2025 Water Shortage Contingency Plan. The Urban Water Management Plan serves as the long-range water resource planning document, demonstrating the city's ability to meet future customer water demands. It evaluates current and future water supplies, projected demands, conservation efforts, drought preparedness, and long-term reliability. The plan incorporates the Water Shortage Contingency Plan outlining response actions during shortages. The city has a resilient and sustainable water supply portfolio, with current reliance on imported water at approximately 60%, local supplies at 40%. Future projections show imported water decreasing to about 35% with increased local production from the Vaness wellfield and expanded groundwater resources. The plan confirms sufficient water supplies through at least 2050 under various conditions, strengthening long-term reliability and sustainability. The plans will be submitted to the California Department of Water Resources.

City Approves Annual Torrance LA Galaxy Night, Ticket Purchases Authorized

The city council approved the purchase of tickets for an annual Torrance LA Galaxy Night. The plan is to purchase 300 tickets for the August 1st, 2026 game against FC Dallas for $10,395, and authorize the purchase of up to 200 additional tickets for $6,930, with a total expenditure not to exceed $17,325. These tickets will be resold to Torrance community members at cost. The event aims to establish a new annual tradition similar to Dodger Day. 20 individuals will be selected for a postgame autograph session, and if additional tickets are purchased, 20 more will get a benchwarmer experience. The seating will be in the mezzanine section 233 at $34.65 per ticket. Discussions included transportation options, with potential for busing from a common location and information about a free bus from Harbor Gateway. The seating is not in a shaded area, but the 7:30 p.m. game time means the sun won't be an issue.
