Sudbury Select Board - Meeting of June 16, 2026
Published: Jun 16, 2026
Select Board Approves Grants for Senior Meals and Fiber Optic Network
The Select Board considered and approved two grant applications for community programs. One grant, for $100,000, will support the Sudbury Senior Center's meal program for three years. Another grant, for $400,000, will fund infrastructure improvements for the town's fiber optic network, contributing to earlier project completion and enhanced technology safety. Concerns were raised about the long-term sustainability of the Senior Center program after the grant period ends and the scope of the fiber optic project relative to its total cost.
Progress Made on Exploring Minuteman Vocational School Rejoining
The Select Board received an update on discussions regarding Sudbury's potential rejoining of the Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical High School district. Superintendent Driscoll met with town representatives and will engage with other municipal administrators to gauge support for Sudbury's readmission. While Minuteman cannot formally offer membership, the support of member communities is required. The superintendent also offered to attend a Select Board meeting to address questions. The board acknowledged that the town meeting's failure to approve funding for Minuteman membership was a setback but not necessarily fatal.
Select Board Integrates BYOB Policy, Approves Housing Authority Vacancy Process
The Select Board discussed and approved revisions to the town's alcohol policies, specifically integrating the 'Bring Your Own Bottle' (BYOB) policy into the broader alcohol rules and regulations. The discussion involved clarifying the intent of the BYOB policy, potential future enhancements, and the need for legal counsel review before final adoption. The board also decided to rescind the standalone BYOB policy once the integrated policy is approved. Additionally, the board acknowledged the resignation of Steve Swanger from the Housing Authority after 40 years of service and discussed the process for filling the vacancy, including advertising and a joint meeting with the Housing Authority.
New Members Appointed to Cultural Council and Agricultural Commission
The Select Board appointed Sarah Olson-Liberman to the Sudbury Cultural Council and Kelly Culver to the Agricultural Commission. Olson-Liberman, a nonprofit consultant with arts experience, was appointed for a term ending May 31, 2029. Culver, a riding instructor and trainer, brings experience in horse farms and aims to foster collaboration within the agricultural community. She was appointed to the Agricultural Commission for a term ending May 31, 2028. The board also thanked departing members of the DEI Commission and Board of Appeals.
Select Board to Review Existing Goals, Consider Economic Development Focus
The Select Board discussed their goals for the upcoming year, agreeing to first review and update existing goals before setting new ones. Members will individually assess the current goals for relevance and progress, with Radha Gargia proposing a new goal focused on economic development, potentially including Route 20 and general economic growth. Charlie Rousseau supported focusing on Route 20 and sidewalks, while Dan Cardi emphasized prioritizing and discussing goals regularly to ensure action. Lisa Carney also expressed strong support for economic development and suggested a dedicated meeting for goal setting.
