Town Board Approves Multiple Hires Including Student Interns, Parks Laborer, Golf Club Staff, and Lifeguards
The town board approved the hiring of a student office worker, identified as the summer intern from the North Buckland High School Academy of Finance. The intern will join the staff in July. Additionally, the board approved the hire of a student laborer for the parks department and approved hires at the Patriot Hills Golf Club in operations. The hiring of lifeguards for the recreation department, as submitted by Carity Miner, was also approved.
Route 9W Paving Operations Underway, Causing Delays
The town is undertaking paving operations on Route 9W. Tonight, paving will occur on the northbound lane from Colt Drive to the Farley Bridge. Tomorrow, the center turning lane will be completed. This work will result in delays on Route 9W and adjacent side streets. Flyers have been distributed, and police will be present to manage traffic flow. The paving covers the stretch from Park Road to Colt Drive in Stony Point.
One-Year Moratorium on Certain Residential Development Proposed for Zoning Review
A public hearing was opened to consider a one-year moratorium on the construction of certain residential developments. The moratorium aims to allow the town to review existing zoning regulations and ensure they align with the community's long-term vision. It will not prevent homeowners from making improvements like decks, pools, fences, or renovations, nor will it stop the construction of single-family homes. The public hearing was continued to the July 14th town board meeting.
Summer Events Underway: Decorating Contest, Scavenger Hunt, and Carnival Announced
The town's summer events are proceeding well. The Patriotic Home Decorating Contest has 20 registered homes, with a viewing map available online. The scavenger hunt has 15 registered teams. The annual carnival will take place from July 8th to 11th, featuring fireworks on July 10th, music, and entertainment.
Eight-Month Moratorium on Battery Energy Storage Systems Considered for Safety Review
A public hearing was opened to consider an eight-month moratorium on battery energy storage systems (BESS facilities). The board seeks to review regulations to ensure they adequately address safety concerns associated with these facilities. The public hearing was continued to the July 14th town board meeting.
