Stockbridge Council Approves 2026 Budget Amendment, Approaching \$38 Million Total

Residents Express Grievances Over Development Impacts, Citing Trespassing and Environmental Damage
Residents voiced strong concerns about a development project, citing trespassing, unauthorized tree cutting, and environmental impacts such as animal disturbances and damage to property. They questioned the adherence to approved plans and demanded transparency regarding changes made during construction and the lack of a meaningful restoration plan for the natural buffer. The Attorney General's office has requested information from the city on this matter.
Stockbridge Moves Forward with Martin Luther King Sr. Statue Project, Council to Review Design
Council considered a resolution approving a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the City of Stockbridge and the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) for a phased approach to designing and constructing a statue honoring Martin Luther King Sr. The DDA is not requesting financial support at this time, and the MOU allows them to use a space for design development while council will have input on the final design. Discussions also covered the potential relocation or repurposing of an existing statue in Municipal Park.
Additional \$219,594 for Fire Main Installation at New Maintenance Shop Approved
The council approved a change order for \$219,594.79 for the installation of water, sewer, and fire main for the new maintenance shop. The necessity for the fire line was identified during project planning to meet life safety and fire marshal requirements, as it was not present in the previous building. Funding is available in SPLOST 6.
Stockbridge Approves \$617,000 Contract for Utility Relocation on Rock Quarry Road Project
The council approved a contract with the Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) for \$617,085.95 to relocate city water and sewer facilities conflicting with the Rock Quarry Road widening project. This action is necessary to keep the road widening project on schedule and involves upgrading aging infrastructure. The funding is from the SPLOST 6 account.
