Sparks City Council Approves Axon ALPR Contract Amendment for Enhanced Surveillance Capabilities
The City Council considered and approved an amendment to contract AC6073 with Axon for automated license plate recognition (ALPR) products and services. This amendment, for a 5-year term, will replace existing Flock Safety cameras as their contracts expire and add 22 new cameras throughout the city. The total cost for this amendment over 5 years is $1,076,000.05. The new contract with Axon will provide increased control over data sharing and retention, with data ownership residing with the Sparks Police Department. Payments will not begin until July 2027, and the annual cost remains the same as the current contract. Installation is expected to begin within 90 days of approval. The contract aims to improve investigative capabilities and address current camera coverage gaps.
