South Kingtown Projects Budget Surplus Fueled by Investment Income and Vacancies
The town council reviewed preliminary results for the fiscal year 2025-2026 general fund and proposed year-end transfers. Revenue is projected to finish $520,000 over budget (1.53%), driven by higher-than-expected property tax revenue, state aid, licenses and permits, and significant investment income. Expenditures are projected to finish $580,000 under budget (1.29%), largely due to departmental vacancies across various town offices, including the town clerk, planning, building and zoning, police, communications, EMS, public services, and library administration. Several transfers are proposed, including funds for library camera replacement, a road paint scraper, the village infrastructure fund, subdivision and zoning ordinance updates, the grant match fund, and the town's equipment reserve.
