Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Maintains Rapid Response Times for Royal Palm Beach, Reports on New Services
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue presented its annual report, highlighting its services and operational statistics for the village of Royal Palm Beach. The department is an ISO Class 1 rated fire department, serving over 1,800 square miles with 50 fire stations. For fiscal year 2025, the average response time to Royal Palm Beach calls was 6 minutes and 24 seconds, below the county average and the department's goal of 7 minutes 30 seconds. Medical calls constituted 76% of responses. The report detailed various services including firefighting, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, high-angle rescues, and animal rescues. New initiatives like traffic preemption technology and carrying plasma alongside whole blood were discussed. The urban search and rescue team was upgraded to Type 3, and the swiftwater unit achieved Type 1 designation. Community risk reduction efforts, including inspections and educational presentations, were also outlined. The report stressed the importance of preparedness for storm seasons and potential budget impacts from the property tax referendum.
Royal Palm Beach December Council Meeting Permanently Moved to First Thursday
The council discussed and unanimously approved a permanent change to hold the December council meeting on the first Thursday of December. This change aims to avoid conflicts with the holiday season, ensuring better availability for council members and residents. While acknowledging potential minor conflicts with Hanukkah in some years, the council decided the first Thursday provides a more practical arrangement. The council also retains the ability to call special meetings if urgent business arises.
Royal Palm Beach District 9 Sees 20.6% Decrease in Overall Crime Rate in FY2025
Captain Elbert Najucks presented the annual report for District 9 of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) for fiscal year 2025. The report highlighted community outreach efforts, support statistics, and crime data for the village. Key statistics included a decrease in overall crime rate by 20.6%, a reduction in residential burglaries by 20%, and a 52.2% decrease in motor vehicle theft. However, business burglaries increased by 42%. Traffic incidents saw a decrease, with 1,380 crashes in 2025, an 87-crash reduction from 2024. The report also detailed the street crimes unit's arrests and the detectives' case clearance rate. License Plate Reader (LPR) cameras were noted as beneficial in detecting stolen vehicles and aiding in arrests. The district continues to focus on crime reduction and traffic safety, aiming to maintain Royal Palm Beach as a safe community.
Royal Palm Beach Approves Ordinance Enhancing Reasonable Accommodations for Certified Recovery Residences
The village council conducted the second reading and unanimously approved Ordinance Number 1071. This ordinance amends Chapter 26, Zoning, Article 3, Administration and Procedures, specifically Section 26-42, concerning reasonable accommodations for certified recovery residences. The amendment aims to provide additional definitions and update procedures and standards for these requests. The ordinance ensures that other sections of the zoning chapter remain in effect and includes standard clauses for conflicts, severability, and codification, with a specified effective date.
Royal Palm Beach Amends Artificial Turf Ordinance to Comply with State Preemption
The council considered Ordinance Number 1069 for its first reading, which amends Chapter 15, Landscaping and Vegetation Management, Section 15-144, Artificial Turf. This ordinance is a result of recent state law changes that preempt the village's ability to prohibit artificial turf on single-family residential properties of one acre or less. The new state regulations, effective May 19th, set specific rules for artificial turf on these properties. The village ordinance now aligns with these state rules, prohibiting artificial turf only in easements, rights-of-way, and swales, and maintaining existing regulations for all other property types. The village attorney clarified that residents cannot replace their entire grass lawn with artificial turf if it includes easements and that irrigation systems would need to be capped.
