Johnny Jazz Park Improvements Proposed: New Stage, Restroom, and Musical Features Planned
The council reviewed and discussed proposed improvements for Johnny Jazz Park, including the installation of a permanent stage platform, ADA accessible ramps and walkways, continuous decorative benches, a stone dust patio with decorative tables, outdoor musical instruments (including an outdoor piano), a Portland blue restroom, improved lighting, electrical upgrades, new landscape plantings, and a new art mural. The total project cost is estimated at $769,000, with the borough seeking $190,000 to $250,000 through the Mammoth County Municipal Park Improvement Program, funded 50% by Green Acres, 25% by the county, and 25% by the borough. The project aims to enhance the park for future events and expand on its musical theme. Public comments raised concerns about the restroom's proximity to the sidewalk and potential odor, as well as security cameras and the placement of handicap parking. The engineer indicated the restroom is designed for outdoor use, is anti-graffiti, and can be easily cleaned, with options to adjust its placement. The project timeline anticipates award announcements in the fall, with design and construction possibly extending into 2027.

Redbank Declares July 2026 Plastic Free, Encourages Community Pledge for Waste Reduction
The council issued a proclamation for Plastic Free July. The proclamation highlights Redbank's commitment to sustainability as a silver certified member of Sustainable Jersey. It mentions Redbank's goals to conserve resources, minimize waste, reduce pollution, and protect residents and wildlife. Previous actions against plastic pollution include an ordinance banning single-use plastic bags in 2020 and a 'skip the stuff' ordinance in 2024. The proclamation notes the significant pollution caused by plastics in waterways and potential human health risks, citing the projection that by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by weight. It emphasizes that plastic pollution is a public health crisis due to microplastics. Plastic Free July is described as a global movement providing resources to reduce single-use plastic waste. Redbank is launching a community pledge to commit to specific actions. The borough supports its environmental commission and green team's partnership with Sustainable Jersey to advance waste reduction.

Redbank Proclaims June 2026 as Immigrant Heritage Month, Celebrates Contributions
