North Olmsted Council Considers Grant Applications for Community Projects

The council is considering two resolutions related to grants. Resolution 2025-53, on first reading, involves a $35,000 grant for a tool to be used repeatedly. Resolution 2026-55, also on first reading, requests authorization to submit a $200,000 grant application ( $150,000 CDBG and $50,000 CDS G) to the county for the second phase of the Old Town Hall renovation. This project has already seen over $650,000 invested in phase one. If approved, the grant will augment existing funds for phase two, with work potentially starting in early 2027 to renovate the first floor, including electrical, painting, and bathroom removal. North Olmsted Police Address Traffic Complaints: Speeding, Loud Mufflers, and E-bikes

The Committee of the Whole discussed common traffic-related complaints including speeding, loud mufflers on I-480, Clague, Sterns, and other major roads, and e-bikes. The Police Department is actively addressing these issues, writing a significant number of citations, with North Olmsted issuing more than surrounding cities combined. Special details are being conducted on various streets. Proposed legislation regarding e-bikes is expected in August. The safety director and chief of police presented data on citations and complaint responses, emphasizing the department's efforts despite resource constraints and other calls for service. Discussions also touched upon potential state-level legislative action for muffler regulations and the need for clearer rules regarding e-bikes, particularly on park paths. Pet Grooming Salon Approved with Conditions in North Olmsted

The Building Zoning and Development Committee favorably recommended PDC Plan 462-2026 for a pet grooming salon at 30349 Lorraine Road, subject to two conditional use permits: no outdoor run or exercise area and limited to pet grooming only, with any expansion requiring further PDC approval. The building owner is amenable, noting the property has been vacant. The location is on the south side of Lorraine Road, near Dairy King but not adjacent to the Chestnut property. Concerns about loose pets were addressed by noting proximity to veterinary offices. The motion passed 3-0. [cite: 10-12, 24-26, 31-33, 35-38, 40-47, 59-61, 90-91, 96-101, 104-106]
