City Council Approves Funds for Final Design of Citywide Pedestrian Improvements

Specific areas targeted for improvements include sidewalks on Peach, Plum, and Grape streets, connecting existing sidewalks from San Antonio Street to the railroad crossing; completing gaps on Hans Drive; and sidewalk improvements on Avery Parkway near an elementary school. While construction funding of over $4.2 million in federal grants is secured for 2028, the NBEDC funds are identified for future commitment. The project is intended to enhance the quality of life and safety for residents.
City Council Approves $200,000 Budget Amendment for Downtown Parking Reinvestment

City Approves Contract for Combined Police and Fire Training Facility Feasibility Study
The City Council approved a contract with Randall Scott Architects, Inc. for a feasibility study and site assessment for a combined public safety training facility for the police and fire departments. This study aims to evaluate facility needs, create conceptual designs and cost assessments, and identify potential properties. The contract amount is $150,000, funded by the 2026 Police Department budget, with the study expected to take 6-9 months. The findings will inform future decisions, including a potential May 2027 bond election.
