City Council Approves Resolution for Public Meeting Notice Compliance
The City Council approved Resolution No. 2622, establishing reasonable notice for city council meetings in compliance with the Open Meetings Act. This annual resolution, effective July 1st, outlines the schedule for regular council meetings. Due to changes in board and commission formations, fewer boards are included in this year's notice, requiring those newly established or not yet fully populated boards to provide their own public notice. The resolution maintains the established meeting dates and times.
City Council Approves Loan for Solid Waste Department Improvements
The City Council approved Ordinance No. 2602, authorizing the City of Las Vegas to enter into a loan agreement with the New Mexico Environment Department for major improvements to the solid waste department. City Council Tables Discussion on Revising Zero Tolerance Drug and Alcohol Policy
The council discussed and amended the city's Zero Tolerance Drug and Alcohol Policy. The proposed revisions, which were tabled for further investigation, would permit off-duty use of medical recreational THC for non-safety-sensitive employees, aligning with state law changes. Concerns were raised about potential impacts on federal funding, fairness to employees with CDLs or in safety-sensitive roles, and the need for clearer language and potentially more comprehensive training on reasonable suspicion.
