Lake Wales Gears Up for Juneteenth Celebrations

The city is planning Juneteenth celebrations, including a festival on Saturday on Lakewood Avenue and a concert on Friday night at the Turner Center. This ordinance, along with related land use and impact fee ordinances, passed unanimously via roll call vote after discussion that acknowledged previous work sessions on the matter.

Camaraderie Foundation Offers Support to Local Veterans and Families

The Camaraderie Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Central Florida, supports active service members, veterans, and their families through mentorship, emotional wellness programs, counseling, and community engagement. Lake Wales Receives Clean Financial Audit for 2025

Heather Moser presented the City of Lake Wales' Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2025. The audit resulted in an unmodified (clean) opinion, indicating no material misstatements. There were no findings related to government auditing standards, single audit reports for federal or state grants, or management letters. The city also implemented GASB 101 regarding compensated absences. Upcoming accounting standards include GASB 103 (capital assets) and GASB 105 (subsequent events). The report was accepted by the Commission.

Lake Wales Amends Public Facilities Impact Fee Regulations

Ordinance 2020 611, an ordinance of the City of Lake Wales, amends chapter 23 of the Lake Wales Code of Ordinances concerning zoning, land use, and development regulations. Specifically, it supplements Article 6, Division 4 (Public Facilities Impact Fees) by adding a definition for 'collection items' and provides an effective date. This ordinance passed its first reading and public hearing with a unanimous roll call vote.
