City Approves Settlement with SGH Holdings LLC Regarding Temporary CUP

The settlement is effective as of March 13th, 2026, and aims to resolve disputes regarding the legality of the temporary nature of the CUP, expansion, SGH's obligations regarding the Broadway Street extension, and the application of the municipal code to the project at the SGH location.
Waste Management Rates for FY 2026-27 Approved with 3.13% Increase
The city council reviewed and unanimously approved the maximum garbage and recycling service rates for USA Waste of California, doing business as Waste Management, for fiscal year 2026-27. The approved rates reflect a total increase of 3.13%, effective July 1st, 2026. This increase is attributed to a 1.97% adjustment for Waste Management (driven by a reduction in fuel costs and no changes in recycling processes) and a 1.16% adjustment for the Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority (reflecting increases in landfill disposal, diversion program, organics processing, and transfer fees). The city's franchise fee percentage remains unchanged, but the city's revenue from these fees is expected to increase due to the overall rate hike.
King City Council Continues Discussion on Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Ordinance
The council was asked to continue a public hearing for an ordinance repealing and replacing Chapter 17.47 of the King City Municipal Code, which regulates the development of accessory dwelling units (ADUs). Staff requested the continuation due to issues raised in correspondence and a review of the ordinance. Minor tweaks are planned to address concerns about objective versus subjective standards before bringing it back to the council at the next meeting. The item was continued unanimously.
