Other projects are in the design phase, such as annex properties and the K57 extension as a secondary route, with designs being developed by KC Valley. Junction City Opera House Presents FY26-27 Budget Request, Citing Economic Impact and Community Engagement

The Junction City Opera House Incorporated, a 501c3 entity managing the CL Hoover Opera House, presented its budget request for fiscal year 26-27. Executive Director Ellie Dylan highlighted a slight decrease in both income and expenses due to impacts from Fort Riley transitions and the rising cost of living. The organization met its goals for fiscal year 25-26 by increasing private rentals by 10%, program income (ticket sales) by 4%, and sponsorships by 4%, while concessions remained stable. The budget request does not include an increase in city support. Dylan emphasized the economic impact of the opera house, estimating nearly 16,000 patrons and drawing visitors who contribute to local businesses. The upcoming season's theme is "Live on 7th," focusing on the proclaimed arts district.

City Manager Outlines Budget Deadlines, Urges Additional Workshop to Avoid Exceeding Revenue Limits

City Manager Wilcox informed the commission about upcoming budget deadlines, specifically noting that the county must be notified by July 20th if the city plans to exceed the "Recommended Revenue" (RNR) limit. The next budget meeting is July 7th, but it's projected that only two departments (Public Works and potentially the City Manager's office) can be covered in the allotted time. Wilcox anticipates needing at least one additional budget workshop before the July 20th deadline, possibly later that week or the following week. He advised commissioners to think about scheduling this additional meeting, noting that evaluation data regarding RNR will be available by June 15th.
