Hyde Park Honors Community Volunteers for Outstanding Service
The Town Board presented certificates of recognition to several individuals and organizations for their significant volunteer contributions to the Hyde Park community. Town Approves Special Use Permit for Retail Cannabis Dispensary
The Town Board held a public hearing and subsequently approved a special use permit for Cool Sunny LLC to operate a retail cannabis dispensary. The application was for the conversion of approximately 2,300 square feet of an existing retail space, previously occupied by an auto body shop, at 701 Violet Avenue. Site improvements include streamlined parking, additional plantings, reduced impervious surfaces, and facade changes. The permit duration is set for three years. The town board amended the resolution regarding the Duchess County Department of Planning and Development's response before voting to approve.
Town Board Discusses and Sets Public Hearing for MS4 Storm Water Management Plan
The Town Board discussed the MS4 storm water management program plan, a roadmap for the town to comply with DEEC storm water permit requirements. The plan outlines six minimum control measures: public education and outreach, public involvement and participation, illicit discharge detection and elimination, construction site runoff control, post-construction storm water management, and pollution prevention for municipal operations. The board is working with Dutchess County Soil and Water Conservation District for catch basin mapping and is developing procedures for various aspects of storm water management. A resolution to set a public hearing for the adoption of this document was approved.
Town Board Approves Multiple Resolutions Including Budget Revisions, Permits, and Grant Applications
The Town Board approved several resolutions during the meeting. These included budget revisions for June 2026, the release of escrow balances for completed projects, the scheduling of a public hearing for the MS4 storm water management program, issuing a hawking/pedaling license to Nicholas Kazar of Bizaar Bites, acknowledging donations for the Recreation Department's Adventure Day Camp and Music in the Park program, approving the submission of a grant application for the New York Places for Learning Activity and Youth Socialization program, and granting a retail cannabis special use permit to Cool Sunny LLC.
Hyde Park Officer Jaclyn Tucker Named State VFW Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
Officer Jaclyn Tucker of the Hyde Park Police Department was honored with the New York VFW Public Servant Award, specifically the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award for the entire state. The award recognizes her exceptional service, integrity, and contributions to community safety. Chief Benson highlighted Officer Tucker's consistent empathy and professionalism on daily calls, as well as a specific incident where she calmly handled a severe auto accident victim and provided ongoing support. Officer Tucker was unable to attend the meeting due to injuries sustained in a recent auto accident.
