City Council Considers Agreement for 24-Inch Sewer Main Extension Design
The City Council is considering authorizing an agreement with Dunaway for professional services related to the design of a 24-inch sewer gravity main extension. This project, approximately 5,500 linear feet, will serve two primary purposes: enabling a future wholesale sewer customer and providing service to existing customers along 1570. The design is sized for future needs, and the existing 1570 lift station has been confirmed to have sufficient capacity. The funding for the design will come from interest savings from the 2024 bond and the industrial park project. Dunaway estimates six months for design and ten months for construction.
City Acquires Easement for Ridgecrest Road Water Line Project
The City Council approved the purchase of easement rights for the Ridgecrest Road water line project. The easement is 1.109 acres, acquired from CNH Industrial America LLC (formerly Case Corporation), with associated damages. The purchase price is $27,000, and the city manager is empowered to finalize the transaction.
May 2026 Status Update Highlights Utility Work and Public Safety Activity
Chris Smith, Chief of Police, presented the monthly status update for May 2026. Key activity included 16 utility cuts, 73 pothole repairs by the streets department, 310 miles of street sweeping, and 11 intersections cleared. The building permits issued were 17, and Certificate of Occupancy (CO) permits were 14. Traffic citations increased to 379. Smith noted that many items were recently reviewed and significant changes are expected in the June update due to progress on the raw water line and transformer delivery.
City Council Approves $70,000 PO Adjustment for Accounting Cleanup
The City Council is addressing a $70,000 increase to a Whitney Penn purchase order (PO) 2026-56. This is described as primarily an accounting transaction to correct a compounding issue from previous years where expenditures were charged to the wrong fiscal year's POs. The money has already been expended and was budgeted for within the general fund. This action is to clean up the PO records, ensuring that future POs accurately reflect the budgeted amounts and fiscal years, a practice the current administration intends to follow.
