Village Board Approves Fire Dept. MOU, New Coordinator Role, and Numerous Project Updates
The village board approved several financial and operational items. They approved the first amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding with the Ozaki Central Fire Department for motor vehicle maintenance and repair services. They also approved the creation of a Utility Facility Operations Coordinator position, to be placed in pay grade 17. The board approved construction change order number one for a sanitary manhole base for the 9th Avenue sewer project and the purchase of a Cabelco SK85CS-7, to be shared between utility and public works. Additionally, resolutions were approved accepting and dedicating improvements for Hawks Ridge Landing, Shady Hollow phases seven and eight, and Stonewall Farms. Finally, the board approved the 2025 Compliance Maintenance Annual Report for electronic submission to the DNR. License renewals for various establishments for alcoholic beverages and for cigarette, tobacco, and vaping devices were also approved.
Village Board Addresses Dam Concerns, Schedules Public Hearing
The village board meeting addressed concerns regarding the dam, with multiple residents speaking about its condition and the process for public input. Les Bloom expressed concern over a single, high bid for emergency dam gate work and advocated for competitive bidding and a redundant closing mechanism. Cindy Apollo inquired about the public hearing timing and shared her observations about the dam's impact on local wildlife and aesthetics. Steve Holtzman requested a more interactive public forum than the standard three-minute comment period, suggesting a way to submit questions beforehand for official responses. The board clarified that a public hearing will occur at the August 3rd meeting.
Resident Clarifies Fire Inspection Responsibilities Amidst Board Discussion
Lisa Harbeck addressed concerns about the fire department inspections, stating that Trustee McCrae incorrectly implied a lack of village board discussion on the topic post-election. She clarified that fire inspections are the responsibility of the fire chief by state law and that the Ozaki Central Fire Department (OCFD) has always complied without complaints from auditors or others. Harbeck urged anyone dissatisfied with an inspection to contact the OCFD directly and emphasized the department's goal of community collaboration.
