Garner Town Council Approves FY26 Budget Amendment and FY27 Budget
The Garner Town Council approved the fiscal year 2026 end-of-year budget amendment, Ordinance 2026-5340N, to align revenues and expenditures with actuals as part of the fiscal year closeout. This standard financial practice ensures departments have sufficient funding to finalize the year and accounts for lease and IT subscription liabilities, as recommended by auditors. The amendment avoids budget violations and aligns with state guidance. The council also unanimously adopted the fiscal year 2027 budget, including the operating budget ordinance (2026-5386), the project budget ordinance (2026-5387) for capital projects, and the FY27 fee schedule. The FY27 budget is based on a 53.5 cent tax rate, with 44 cents for town operations and 9.5 cents for debt service, and includes 10 new FTEs, bringing the total to 375. Councilmember Singleton voted against the FY27 budget due to concerns about adding FTEs while cutting capital projects.
