Larimer County Approves Letter of Understanding for County Road 70 Widening Project
A Letter of Understanding with Poudre Valley REA Incorporated was approved as part of the consent agenda concerning the County Road 70, Al Canyon Road widening project. This project involves widening the road between County Road 11 and County Road 13, Section 7.
Commissioner Kafalis Reflects on Harvard Program, Community Events, and Personal Achievement
Commissioner Kafalis shared his experience attending the Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, noting it was a valuable experience from which he looks forward to bringing back learnings on emergency management, disaster response, and effective communication. He also briefly mentioned attending the Juneteenth celebration in Fort Collins and the Loveland Pride event, describing the vibrant atmosphere, various vendors, music, and community engagement at both. The Commissioner highlighted the county's public affairs booth at the Pride event where they shared information about county services and used tools like the budget explorer. Commissioner Kafalis also mentioned completing his 100th mile of hiking over the weekend, the earliest achievement in 12 years, and noted it was on the Summer Solstice.
Larimer County Approves Workforce Development Grant Agreement
The Board of County Commissioners reviewed and approved several agreements as part of the consent agenda, including a Local Area Employment and Training Grant submitted by the Economic and Workforce Development Department. This agreement, between the state of Colorado and Larimer County, provides funding to support workforce development, employment, and training services within the local workforce area. The contract is set to begin on July 1st, 2026, and conclude on June 30th, 2028.
Larimer County Celebrates Opening of New North Landfill
The County Manager provided an update on the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new North Landfill, which is state-of-the-art and expected to begin production on August 5th. The County Manager also congratulated Solid Waste Director Dwayne Penny and his team for their work. Commissioner Shaib-Nally echoed these congratulations, highlighting the significant effort involved in opening the new landfill, starting the transfer station, and closing the old landfill simultaneously.
Larimer County Approves Wildfire Mitigation Services Agreements
As part of the consent agenda, the Board of County Commissioners approved professional services agreements for wildfire mitigation services under the Community Wildfire Defense Grant. These agreements involve performing wildfire mitigation treatments on private properties to reduce wildfire risk and protect life and property. Specifically, agreements were noted with Summit Forest Incorporated and Redfeather Lakes Excavating Incorporated for work in the Redfeather Lakes area of Northern Colorado.
