The Farmington City Council approved the allocation of $282,454.90 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for federal fiscal year 2026. The Parks and Recreation Department proposed using these funds to continue the Phase 2 Boundless Journey Adventure Park project. The Council directed staff to allocate these funds to the project, with formalization of this direction to be presented on July 28, 2026. Council members expressed support for the project, citing positive community feedback and the park's success.
Farmington Council Approves Multifamily Rezoning Amidst Neighborhood Concerns
The Farmington City Council considered a rezoning petition (ZC26-37) to change a property at 2301 North Huntsinger Avenue from single-family residential (SF7) to multifamily low-density residential. The proposal, brought by Orlando Rivera Yanez and represented by Genesis Estrada, aims to replace a vacant, dilapidated building with two duplexes, creating four housing units. The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval with conditions, including a maximum of four units, residential protection standards, and design standards. Public comment revealed concerns about increased density, traffic, parking, and the character of the established single-family neighborhood, while proponents highlighted the need for housing and the removal of a blighted structure. The Council ultimately approved the rezoning with a 4-0 vote, citing alignment with the comprehensive plan, compatibility with the surrounding area, and the provision of affordable housing.
