City to Accelerate Fleet Replacement with $800,000 Environmental Grant
The Public Works Department and Fleet Manager presented an update on the city's fleet replacement plan, requesting to accelerate the purchase of two vehicles ahead of schedule due to an $800,000 grant from the state's Environmental Protection Grant program (Volkswagen Settlement). These vehicles, a solid waste truck and a public services truck, were originally slated for replacement in FY27 and FY28. The grant covers a significant portion of the cost, with the remaining $75,000 to be funded from the solid waste fund. The grant has strict deadlines requiring the purchase and disabling of old vehicles to be completed soon. The replacement vehicles will be procured through the Sheriff's contract, which was competitively bid. The old vehicles associated with the grant will need to be destroyed, with proof of engine disabling required.
