City Council Approves Measures for November 2026 General Municipal Election
The City Council approved actions necessary to conduct the November 3rd, 2026 general municipal election. This includes adopting a resolution calling the election, opening the nomination period from July 13th to August 7th, consolidating the city's election with the statewide general election, and authorizing the Fresno County Elections Division to administer the election. The resolution also maintains the existing 200-word limit for candidate statements and requires a $500 fee for printing and handling.
Clovis Adopts Ordinance to Regulate Infectious Materials in Laboratories
The City Council introduced an ordinance to adopt by reference the County of Fresno's infectious materials ordinance and authorized the city manager to execute a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the county. This allows the county to monitor and enforce regulations on privately funded laboratories within the city that handle infectious agents, particularly those not licensed under CLIA. This action follows an incident in Readley involving an unpermitted lab and aims to enhance public health and safety by ensuring proper oversight and inspection of such facilities, even though no such non-CLIA labs are currently known within Clovis.
Jason Rawls Confirmed as New Clovis Fire Chief
The City Council confirmed the appointment of Jason Rawls as the new Fire Chief for the City of Clovis. Rawls has 30 years of experience with the Clovis Fire Department, having served in every rank. He will take over from Chief Eck upon his retirement. The confirmation was followed by the administration of the oath of office and a badge pinning ceremony.
