Del Webb Proposes 750-Home Development in Castle Pines
The City Council received an update on the Del Webb project, a proposed 750-home development on the east side of the city. The developer, Pulte and Del Webb, has chosen Castle Pines for their first project in Colorado in decades, highlighting the community's cachet. The development will focus on residents with financial wherewithal and will be highly amenitized, though not exclusively for those aged 55 and over. The project requires a preliminary plan amendment and is anticipated to be brought before the council in a couple of months, with a closing date in September.

New Community Center Expected to Host Future City Meetings; Annexation Survey Promoted
Council Member Winegar noted that the city manager's newsletter, which includes a QR code for the annexation survey, should have reached residents or will do so shortly, urging participation. She also highlighted upcoming city events, including the Concert in the Park series, and advised residents to check the city's website for the calendar. Winegar also shared that the upcoming council meeting might be the last one held in the library, with future meetings potentially moving to the new community center at the Castle Pines Parkway and Yorkshire intersection, which will provide a permanent space with more flexibility for various city meetings and events.
Council Member Reports on Community Events, Infrastructure, and Water Management
Council Member Mulvey reported on the success of the Food Truck Frenzy event, which proceeded despite threats of rain. She also spoke at the Infra Day conference, emphasizing the importance of community-supporting infrastructure and feeling comfortable with the city's forward planning. Mulvey also noted the work of the Castle Pines North Metro District, which has refurbished equipment using impact fees from new homes, improving infrastructure and addressing issues that previously impeded processes like the Parker inclusion. The district is also working on water usage efficiencies, implementing new meters and a tiered payment system for excessive water use, with a punitive element for those who have used water without proper allocation for extended periods, which Mulvey views as beneficial for the community.
Opioid Committee Actively Funding Programs with Strong Application Numbers
Council Member Cole provided an update on the opioid committee, which released a contract in early May and has received 27 applications for funding various programs.
