Town Authorizes Asbestos Abatement for Sycamore Park Theater Building
The town is moving forward with the abatement of asbestos and lead paint at the deteriorating theater building at Sycamore Park before its demolition. EnviroCheck identified asbestos, and Surf Pro submitted the sole quote for abatement services at $16,350. Highway Superintendent Stern will assist with the demolition post-abatement, potentially saving taxpayer costs. The board voted to authorize Surf Pro for the abatement services.
Public Hearing Set for CDBG Application for Water District Infrastructure Project
The Town Board scheduled a public hearing for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application. The town intends to apply for up to $2 million in CDBG funds for the Town of Carmel Water District Number Two infrastructure project. The public hearing will gather input on community needs and CDBG funding priorities. The hearing is set for July 1st, 2026, during the regular town board meeting.
Jimmy McDonough Park Master Plan Update Presented to Town Board
The Town Board reviewed a master plan update for Jimmy McDonough Memorial Park, which included feedback from community stakeholders and user groups. The updated plan addresses improvements to ball fields, including orientation and parking, as well as upgrades to the skate park. Phasing and cost estimates were presented, with an initial proposal focusing on the baseball field complex and parking for approximately $5 million. Discussions also covered the use of turf versus grass for fields, the potential inclusion of a splash pad, and the need for a referendum to fund the project. The board requested a revised cost estimate for an all-grass, single-phase project.
Town Board Approves MOU for School Security Camera Access
The Town Board authorized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Lakeland Central School District for security camera access. This agreement will allow the Town of Carmel Police Department to access security cameras within the school district. Town Supervisor Mike Kazari and Chief of Police Anthony Hoffman are authorized to execute the agreement. The resolution was offered by Councilman Lombardi and passed unanimously.
Town Board Approves Fee for Fireworks Display Permits
The Town Board approved a resolution to amend the user fee schedule, establishing a $500 fee for insurance of permits for fireworks displays, effective immediately. The resolution was proposed by Councilman Shana and seconded. A roll call vote confirmed unanimous approval.
