Atlantic City Celebrates 15th Anniversary of Jazz Vespers Services
The city recognized the 15th anniversary of the Jazz Vespers services at Esperanto. The service was originally founded by Reverend Clancy Wilson and continues to feature local jazz musicians, aiming to bring them together with the community and visitors. Reverend Gilbert Caldwell Church was also involved in the service's inception.
CDBG Funding to Support Bus Shelters, Housing Lottery, and Park Improvements
The council is set to consider three items funded by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding: replacement of bus shelters, a housing lottery initiative in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, and improvements at Center City Park due to a change in the annual action plan.
Resident Seeks Council's Help for Unpaid Contract Work
The council heard from Ron Squire regarding an unpaid contract for services provided by Atlantic City residents to the BRT organization. Squire requested assistance in ensuring payment, noting that his partner and he recruited nearly 80 residents for the event, but the BRT organization changed their mind about payment. Council President indicated they do not handle such disputes directly but would speak with the administration about ensuring local residents are paid for work contracted within the city.
Council Votes on Grouped Resolutions, Including Cannabis Facility Approvals
The council voted on a group of resolutions, including regular, consent, and new business items. Resolutions 411 and 412, related to cannabis facilities, were pulled for discussion and subsequently passed with a split vote, including abstentions from Councilman Kurtz and Councilman Randolph.
Councilman Crouch Commends City Employees for Public Safety Efforts
Councilman Crouch thanked Director Riggins for informing him about the incident involving police officers and for keeping him updated. He acknowledged Riggins' service and impact, noting he will be missed upon his election to Atlantic County. Additionally, Councilman Crouch thanked Mr. Sears for his diligence in removing an unused antenna from Venice Park after a year-long effort, which has improved safety for residents.
