Town of Wilton NY - Town Board Meeting - June 2026
Published: Jun 9, 2026
Town Board Accepts Law Establishing Moratorium on Battery Energy Storage Systems
The Town Board accepted proposed Local Law Number Three of 2026, which establishes a moratorium on battery energy storage systems. This action follows a public hearing where the Fire Chief expressed support for the moratorium due to safety and logistical concerns. The board voted unanimously to accept the law.
Town Board Proposes Sign Code Revisions for Content Neutrality and Clarity
The Town Board discussed proposed amendments to the sign code, aimed at bringing the town into compliance with the 2015 Supreme Court ruling Reed v. Town of Gilbert, Arizona. The amendments ensure content-neutrality for temporary, non-commercial signage, applying consistent standards across the board. The proposal also removes the ban on sandwich board signs and the prohibition of "immoral" signage, as these were deemed subject to government censorship. Size regulations are also being updated, with different standards for residential/mixed zones (4 sq ft) and commercial zones (16 sq ft). A public hearing will be set for July 2nd.
Town Approves Annual Contract with Wilton Wildlife Preserve for Educational Services
The Town Board approved a contract with Wilton Wildlife Preserve and Park for educational services. The town provides an annual grant of $87,500 to the Preserve, which in return offers educational programs, including camp staff services, programs for residents, and quarterly presentations by Margo. The grant's purpose is to fund educational staff and support the organization's educational component. The contract is annual, with payments made quarterly.
Town Board Enters Executive Session for Personnel and Litigation Discussions
The Town Board moved into executive session to discuss matters involving medical, financial credit, or employment history of a particular person or corporation, or matters related to appointment, employment, promotion, demotion, discipline, suspension, dismissal, or removal of a particular person or corporation, and/or discussions regarding litigation. The meeting would resume after the executive session.
Town Board Approves Budget Transfers for Event Supplies, Stormwater Services, and Land Acquisition
The Town Board approved two sets of budget transfers and amendments. First, a $5,000 increase for banners and t-shirts for an event, funded from the contingent account. Second, $40,000 for MS4 stormwater compliance services, funded by reallocating money from the engineers' line, planning, minor equipment, and drainage facilities, with $10,000 from the contingent account. Third, budget amendments totaling $31,500 for right-of-way easement acquisitions related to the Carr Road-Jones Road project. These funds are part of a larger federal allotment.
