City Council Approves Lien Reduction for 1255 Wells Avenue Property
The City Council heard a request from Carter Young, representing SurePath Properties, to reduce code enforcement liens totaling $107,626.82 on the property at 1255 Wells Avenue. Young intends to purchase the property for $50,000 and renovate it. Council members expressed concerns about the property's history, the cost of city cleanup efforts, and the potential for the buyer to profit while the city recovers minimal funds. After discussion, the council voted to reduce the liens to $40,000, contingent on the closing of the sale by SurePath Properties within 120 days.

The East Campus plan proposes a new 50,000 sq ft community center, aquatic center, community kitchen, chip and putt golf, dog park, expanded pickleball and tennis courts, a mini-pitch, and neighborhood park amenities including playgrounds and pavilions. The West Campus plan focuses on upgrading and expanding baseball and softball fields, including three 225-foot baseball fields, a 200-foot field, batting cages, a community playground, a multi-use field, and a dog park. Both plans incorporate community feedback, studies, and engagement sessions.
City Council Honors City Administrator John Drury for FCCMA Service
The council approved a resolution honoring John Drury, the city administrator, for his service as District 8 Director on the Florida City and County Management Association (FCCMA) Board of Directors from 2024 to 2026. The resolution commended his unselfish service and recognized his role as board liaison for the fiscal and administrative policy committee. The motion to accept the resolution passed five to zero.
State Property Tax Reform Referendum to Appear on November 2026 Ballot
City Administrator John Drury informed the council about a state referendum on property tax reform scheduled for Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026. The referendum, if passed with 60% of the vote, would increase the homestead exemption to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, and reduce the non-homesteaded property tax increase cap from 10% to 5%. This would not affect the current or proposed city budgets but would impact the FY28 budget beginning October 1st, 2027. There is no fiscal impact from receiving this information, but the council and public are being made aware of the upcoming vote.
