Shafter Honors Ricardo Rodriguez, National Golden Gloves Champion
The city council recognized Ricardo Rodriguez for being an eight-time national champion, including winning the national Golden Gloves in Tulsa. East Tulare Avenue Pedestrian Improvements Project Awarded to Griffith Company
The council approved the East Tulare Avenue pedestrian improvement project from Shafter Avenue to Beach Avenue. This grant-funded project focuses on sidewalks, curb and gutter, driveways, and ADA curb ramps, installing sidewalks where they are missing. The lowest of five bids was from Griffith Company for $517,735. The total construction budget is set at $600,000, fully funded by the CIP budget. Public works staff conducted personal outreach to affected residents.
Lerdo Highway Reconstruction Project Approved, Bowman Asphalt Awarded Contract
The council approved the Lerdo Highway reconstruction project from Shnight Street to Valley Street. This federally funded project will reconstruct the road, install new ADA curb ramps, and replace/install sidewalks. The lowest bid was from Bowman Asphalt for $923,955. The total project cost is estimated at $1,015,000, including additional costs for material testing. A budget amendment of $167,000 from gas tax funds is required.
Shafter Council Approves Balanced 2026-2027 Operating Budget
