Neighboring towns like Lyndhurst, East Rutherford, and Wallington have already adopted similar ordinances. The citizen emphasized the environmental importance of trees for fauna habitats, cooling, and especially water retention to prevent flooding, noting that trees are being removed during home construction and renovation without adequate replacement. The council acknowledged the delay, stating the ordinance is with the Shade Tree Commission and committed to investigating the status and providing an update.
