Golf Lounge with Alcohol Sales Approved at Expressway 83 Location
A conditional use permit was approved for a par-four/par-five golf lounge and for the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages at 1522 Expressway 83. The establishment will be in a small suite with a maximum capacity of 37. The applicant is adding restrooms to comply with code requirements. Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval, and the motion passed unanimously, including approval for ordinance number 5834 and the wet zone ordinance 5835.
City to Apply for $2 Million Grant for Flood-Related Street Repairs
The city council authorized the submission of a grant application to the Texas General Land Office for the Disaster Recovery Reallocation Program (DRRP). The application seeks $2 million for street improvements on Holland Avenue, which were impacted by the 2018 flood event. The project requires a 10% cash match of $200,000, funded by the 2025 CO bond. The project area is located between Business 83 and the frontage road.
Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce Updates on Business Development and Community Support
The Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce provided an update on their activities, including celebrating groundbreaking for Don Pepes, grand openings for Candlewood Suites, Avid Hotel, and Style Swap Boutique. They also donated $25,500 to each of Mission CISD and Sharyland ISD from their golf tournament proceeds to support areas of need. Upcoming events include an Insurance 101 seminar, and grand openings for Buffalo Wild Wings Go, Monarch Learning Academy. The chamber is also seeking nominations for their annual business awards and board positions. Additionally, they visited Washington D.C. to advocate for small businesses on issues like access to water and grant opportunities.
Conditional Use Permit Issued for Guest House Construction
A conditional use permit was approved for the construction of a guest house at 2803 Grand Canal Drive. The guest house will be constructed concurrently with the main house. Conditions include no encroachments on setbacks or easements, and there was no opposition from surrounding property owners. The motion to approve passed unanimously.
City to Apply for Up to $21 Million Water Infrastructure Grant
The city council authorized the submission of a grant application to the Texas Water Development Board for the Water Supply and Infrastructure Grant Program (WSIG) for an amount not to exceed $21 million. This program offers 100% grant funding for water supply and water infrastructure projects. The city intends to seek funding for improvements to its water treatment plant to enhance system reliability, operational efficiencies, and long-term water supply infrastructure. The Mayor is designated as the authorized signatory.
