Town Renews Employee Assistance Program Contract at Reduced Per-Employee Cost
The town is renewing its one-year contract for an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for all town employees. The cost is $50 per employee, based on 119 employees, for the period of July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027. This fee represents a decrease from the previous year due to a larger employee base. The EAP provides confidential services, with only the number of employees utilizing the service reported, not the nature of the usage. Services are also available to household members of employees.
Resident Commends Board for Facility Study and New Counselor Appointment, Emphasizes Diversity
Tom Bass, a retired real estate lawyer and long-time resident, commended the board for undertaking a study on the town's facility needs. He noted that previous proposals for land acquisition in the Berdick Street and Northeast Medical areas failed due to a lack of citizen input and thorough analysis. Bass also expressed appreciation for the board's decision to appoint Brett as a new counselor, highlighting his qualifications, academic record, and the welcoming of diversity that his appointment represents, particularly in light of his own family's experiences with same-sex marriage.
Town Defers Support for FPCA Funding Request Pending Further Information
The New York FPCA (Federation of Police, Correction, and Firefighters Associations) requested a letter of support for funding, but the town board is deferring the decision. While the town has a contract with the FPCA for animal cruelty cases, they need more information about the FPCA's current status and any improvements made before offering support for their expansion. The board suggested inviting the FPCA to a future board meeting to provide an update and clarify what services residents receive for the current contract.
