Goodsville Council Approves Sales Tax Referendum for City Investment

The City Council considered Ordinance 26-1146, also known as the Goodsville Investment Act, for a second reading. This ordinance proposes a referendum to increase the local option sales tax by half a penny per dollar. The primary goal is to generate additional funds for city services such as parks, roads, and public safety, with projected annual collections between $3.3 to $3.6 million. A caveat exists where this amount could be halved if a county-level sales tax referendum is successful. The council discussed the potential use of these funds for staffing public safety, park expansion, and fire hall construction, emphasizing flexibility in future planning. Plans are underway to create a public information campaign, including a webpage and social media posts, to educate residents about the referendum before the November election.
