Gaithersburg Planning Commission Approves Site Plan Amendment for Future City Hall

The Planning Commission reviewed and approved an amendment to the final site plan for AFP-1030-2026, concerning the renovation of the existing building at 12 South Summit Avenue and an adjacent site for the new future city hall. The project involves improvements to site circulation, plaza enhancements, stormwater management through a micro bio-retention facility, and repairs to existing infrastructure. Key discussions included the design of a new plaza space with plantings and an art display, the use of silva cells for tree root expansion, grade changes and the implementation of steps, ADA accessibility, and the placement of bollards for building protection. Concerns were also raised and addressed regarding the easement for an alleyway providing access to a city-owned garage. The staff recommended approval with one condition: the applicant must submit revised plans addressing staff comments for site plan cleanup, to be approved by the planning and public works departments prior to final signature.
