City to Pursue PFAS Settlement Funds for Water System Improvements
The city is entering into a legal services agreement with Grossman and Kelly LLP and Bartlett Law Offices to pursue a settlement from the PFAS settlement fund. This class action lawsuit addresses per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances found in water systems. While regulations are not in effect until 2029, the city has slightly elevated levels of PFAS, and this agreement aims to secure funds estimated between $900,000 and $2.25 million to help finance future filtering systems. The law firms will receive one-third of the collected amount, with no upfront cost to the city.
City Ratifies $60,000 Agreement for Water Reclamation Plant Blower Building AC Replacement
The council ratified the City Manager's execution of an agreement not to exceed $60,000 for the replacement of the air conditioning system at the Section 10 water reclamation plant's blower building. The existing unit was insufficient to keep the building cool, potentially causing critical blowers to fail. The new, larger unit ensures proper operating temperatures for the blowers, which are essential for oxygenating liquids in aeration basins and digesters.
