Brenham ISD Board Approves Purchase of Supplemental Social Studies Materials for Grades 6-12
The Brenham ISD Board of Trustees approved the purchase of HMH social studies instructional materials for grades 6-12 for $73,15, utilizing the instructional materials and technology allotment. This purchase addresses a long-standing need, as the last social studies curriculum proclamation in Texas was in 2015. The materials will serve as a supplemental bridge for three years while the district continues to follow state standards and the upcoming 2030 proclamation cycle. The need for updated materials was identified by social studies teachers who requested support for secondary grades.
Brenham ISD Board Reviews Financials, Approves Budget Amendments for Tax Office and Maintenance Fees
The Brenham ISD Board of Trustees received a monthly financial update, including budget versus actuals, investment reports, and tax collections. A projected fund balance addition of approximately $1 million for the current fiscal year was presented, aiming to gradually rebuild the district's fund balance to meet TEA's recommended two to three months of reserves by 2029. The board also discussed and approved budget amendments, including moving the tax office budget to a separate fund for cleaner financial reporting and to accurately reflect administrative costs, and reallocating funds from the Tom Green fund balance to cover the annual maintenance tax note fee due to decreased revenue from that fund.
Rice Gardner Provides Update on Brenham ISD's Deferred Maintenance Bond Program, Highlights Potential Challenges
Rice Gardner, represented by Eric Pasquali, presented an update on their role as project managers for the deferred maintenance bond program. The team has been 'hitting the ground running' since their contract began on May 12th. Their initial 90-day plan includes introducing the team, completing site walks (with the middle and junior high schools being the last), validating scope, and developing an executable plan with schedules and costs. They are focusing on mechanical, roofing, and waterproofing, but also addressing electrical, plumbing, and interior work, as well as ADA compliance. Potential issues like asbestos and water damage in older buildings were highlighted as factors that could increase costs and trigger code compliance requirements. The district plans to engage design teams and proceed with procurement, emphasizing transparent communication throughout the process.
Brenham ISD Outlines ESSA Grant Allocations for Title I, II, III, and IV Programs
Mary Gold, Federal Programs Coordinator, presented an overview of the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) federal grants, which include Title I, Title II, Title III, and Title IV. Title I funds are allocated to five campuses based on low-income families and support teachers, aides, and professional development. Title II funds, totaling $526,534, are designated for teachers and professional development, including a district instructional coach. Title III, with $87,982 for the general grant and $11,750 for immigrant students, supports literacy coaches and curriculum. Title IV, totaling $87,982, funds STEAM teachers, professional development, and technology. The board received clarification on the funding amounts and was informed about increases and decreases in grant awards compared to the previous year.

The Brenham ISD Board of Trustees recognized the achievements of the Cub baseball team and players. The team had a successful season with a 24-13-1 record, securing their first outright district championship since the addition of new schools to the district. The program also tied the record for most selections to the Greater Houston Baseball Coaches Association futures game. The board acknowledged the players and coaches for their representation of the school, athletic program, and community.
